Lucky Stiff: A Musical Comedy
Lucky Stiff is a musical comedy in two acts, with music by Stephen Flaherty and Book and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and based on the play The Man Who Broke the Bank At Monte Carlo. It is a mad-cap murder-mystery comedy that involves a mild-mannered show clerk, Harry Witherspoon, who has the chance to inherit a fortune if he goes on a holiday with his uncle to Monte Carlo. Trouble is – his uncle, a croupier at the Monte Carlo casino, is dead. Full of eccentric colourful characters, this hilarious farce was first produced in 1988 and marks the beginning of the collaboration between Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens who subsequently wrote Once on This Island, Ragtime, and A Man of No Importance. Will Harry survive and inherit his uncle’s fortune, and who murdered his uncle anyway? Come along and find out.
The American works performed by the Musical Theatre programme are sponsored by the Embassy of the United State of America in Singapore. LASALLE thanks the Embassy for its generous support in assisting our students in this production.
